OxfamUO
OxfamUO is an Oxfam campus group located at the University of Ottawa. Working closely with Oxfam Canada, we aim to educate and empower through fundraising and awareness events.
Oxfam Canada works with partner organizations in developing countries; tackling the root causes of poverty and inequity and helping people to create self-reliant and sustainable communities.
As an international confederation of 15 organizations working in over 90 countries, the organization’s reach is broad. Oxfam Canada is committed to alleviating hunger worldwide and believes that ending global poverty begins with women’s rights. In the countries in which Oxfam operates, collaboration occurs at the community level and through influencing the policies of the powerful to ensure the well-being of the poor. Currently, the need is great. When (and long before) famine erupted in the Horn of Africa, Oxfam was one of the most proactive international organizations present. The organization is currently reaching over 2.8 million people with humanitarian aid. When the worst natural disaster ever to strike Pakistan came in the form of last year’s floods, Oxfam was present and has so far reached more than 1,360,000 of those affected with clean water supplies, sanitation facilities, and even tools to help them rebuild their livelihoods.
